Weeklong Deals for 9/30/19

Several can’t-miss titles have found their way into the Weeklong Deals, including Grim Dawn, Dark Scavenger, and Nova Drift. Be sure to grab those, and check out the wealth of other promising titles I’ve laid out for you here.
The big news, of course, is that Spooktober is very much upon us! Tomorrow is day 1 of Spooky Games 6: Hellseeker, my long-running challenge to review 31 horror games during the month of October. Keep that page bookmarked and check back in every day around 8am PDT for a new review!
And last but not least, our October Reader’s Choice selection has ended, and y’all voted for two very promising titles. We’ll be adding A Place for the Unwilling and The Light Keeps Us Safe to our Spooktober lineup, so look forward to hearing about those in great detail!
Scary good
Grim Dawn (Review) – My all-time favorite ARPG, set in a world besieged by all manner of eldritch horrors
Dawn of Man (Review) – Solid pre-historic city builder that just got a big update
They Are Billions (Review) – I haven’t tried it since Early Access but the survival mode in that was well worth the price of admission
RUINER (Review) – Pitch-black cyberpunk brawler with some wild mechanics
Anodyne 2: Return to Dust (Review) – An excellent evolution of the formula and a fantastic follow-up to the first game that can still stand on its own
Anodyne (Review) – A wonderful Zelda-style adventure through creative mindscapes
Sundered: Eldritch Edition (Review) – Fast-paced and frenetic metroidvania that mixes up the bizarre environments you explore
Nova Drift (Review) – Easily the best Asteroids-style game you will ever play, even if you don’t normally like this kind of shmup
Sir, You Are Being Hunted (Review) – A creative attempt at open-world stealth and exploration
Fission Superstar X (Review) – Tough roguelike shmup to get into, but the wild style and varied runs should keep you in it
Nightmares from the Deep: The Cursed Heart (Review) – One of my personal favorite hidden object games
Chasm (Review) – Not the deepest metroidvania (ironically), but good for what it is
Dark Scavenger (Review)- Absurdly good sci-fi adventure, seriously get this right now
Hero of the Kingdom (Review) – Top-tier title for chilling and going on a fanciful trading adventure
Depths of Peril (Review) – Dated, clunky, and hard to learn, but offers an ARPG experience like few others
Back to Bed (Review) – Neat little puzzler with a Dali aesthetic
Mutant Mudds Deluxe (Review) – Perfectly serviceable retro platformer
Terribad
Left in the Dark: No One on Board (Review) – The rare hidden object game too stupid for even me
Frankenstein: Master of Death (Review) – Wait, sorry, here’s another HOG too stupid for me
Sinister City (Review) – Okay this HOG is the good kind of stupid, but is too buggy to be worth it
Bardbarian (Review) – Decent concept, horribly repetitive execution
Diamo XL (Review) – Total misfire of what should be a fun little arcade score attack
Vertiginous Golf (Review) – Miniature golf robbed of all levity and enjoyment
Sugar Cube: Bittersweet Factory (Review) – Awfully bare-bones puzzle platformer
House of Evil (Review) – lol
