Weeklong Deals for 11/18/19

The Weeklong Deals are hosting the Far Cry games this time, and back during my FPSummer series I covered all of them up through 4. This seems like a fine time to go back over ’em, since they’re all worth playing in one respect or another. I’m also throwing Nova Drift up at the top of the list despite it being a daily deal, because it’s just so good. Seriously, you owe it to yourself to give this Asteroids-style roguelike shmup a try.

We’re over the hump of November and we’ve still got some ground to gain towards our next Patreon goal, so if you’ve a mind to help I’d greatly appreciate it! One dollar a month can make a big difference, allowing us to pick up more enticing Reader’s Choice selections and sudden releases like The Legend of Bum-Bo last week. Plus, if you become a Patron this month, you’ll be able to request a specific game for me to review next month! Learn more about our Patreon improvements here.

GIMME

Nova Drift (Review) – The most insanely fun take on Asteroids you will ever play

Far Cry (Review) – The originator of the series is still a classic for its open-world stealth and gunplay, just be ready for some quirks

Far Cry 2 (Review) – I know it’s a contentious pick but this is my favorite of the series

Far Cry 3 (Review) – Most of the fun of 2 with more modern designs and freedoms, just hamstrung by a dumbass story

Far Cry 3 – Blood Dragon (Review) – All the fun of the Far Cry series with a satirical neon 80s paint job

Far Cry 4 (Review) – Far Cry 3 wasn’t enough Far Cry for you? Here ya go!

Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition (Review) – Corrects pretty much all the problems of the original release, making this a masterful metroidvania

Seeds of Resilience (Review) – A very unique, slow-paced, and hands-off take on island survival

Unexplored (Review) – One of the only roguelikes ever to successfully transition traditional roguelike level design and systems into real-time action

Hard Reset Redux (Review) – It’s some samey robot shootin’ but it looks real good doing it

Hero of the Kingdom (Review) – One of the best chill-out adventures on Steam

Nihilumbra (Review) – Neat little puzzle platformer with some good gimmicks

GOWAY

Hard West (Review) – I wanted to like wild west hell XCOM so much, but there are serious problems with the design here

Diamo XL (Review) – Neat idea for a score attack game, but not that fun in practice

Bardbarian (Review) – Another concept needing a better execution

Until I Have You (Review) – Slick cyberpunk platformer ruined by absolutely wretched level design and controls

Megamagic: Wizards of the Neon Age (Review) – Has a cool 80s aesthetic, and that’s about it

Canyon Capers (Review) – I hate this so much
